A tweet-based journal of what I’ve been playing…
Oh wow, this was a great game before the update already. Excited to dive back in! https://t.co/t1nWb7CH3F

Was just browsing Nexus mods for a bit. Didn't know @Valheimgame mods had already reached the energy-beam-from-the-eyes stage…

Guess I managed to truly escape from Tarkov by building a bitcoin farm, so I can earn those roubles straight from my hideout without all those messy scavenging raids… 😜
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) April 11, 2021
Seriously though, #EscapefromTarkov keeps generating high-adrenaline moments like barely any other game! pic.twitter.com/z2aXwipmX5
Space Choice: Data Analyzer is a super boiled-down and frantic version of an auto battler by @sdgames (who made the incredible One Finger Death Punch before). Worth a look, might spark some new ideas about the genre. It's also completely free on Steam: https://t.co/N05RfOmtVA pic.twitter.com/Mu52aOzwa9
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) April 16, 2021
Insurmountable by @ByteRockers is a #roguelike mountain climbing game. Quite a unique experience between strategy, survival and resource management. Though the fact that I had to go down again after reaching the top definitely caught me off guard (you know, video game logic). 😛 pic.twitter.com/3AySobxl99
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) April 29, 2021
So someone clearly played Dicey Dungeons (@terrycavanagh), the Meteorfall games (@slothwerks) and everything @tinytouchtales.
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) April 30, 2021
However, Dicey Elementalist (@DiceyElemental1) is a surprisingly (or not given the good taste I guess) cool deck-building #roguelike with dice. pic.twitter.com/5ObemXtjGM
I'm late to the party, but finally got to my first @TheMonsterTrain run with the DLC. Monsters were merged, spells got out of control and the Last Divinity was reaped. Cool stuff, excited to explore the new Wurmkin faction more! 🐛 pic.twitter.com/ky0TUO0mBg
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) May 7, 2021
Finally reached level 40 with all trader loyalties maxed out in #EscapefromTarkov. Peacekeeping Mission got me there in the end, but it wasn't easy. You have to run around in a blue uniform glowing like a smurf all the time… pic.twitter.com/dvjxWTgmyP
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) May 14, 2021
Unexplored (@PlayUnexplored) had great procedural dungeons. The sequel generates a whole open world filled with quests and secrets. The gameplay (combat, AI, bugs) needs some work still, but this is definitely a #roguelike worth keeping an eye on while it's in early access! pic.twitter.com/JVzVCc14lh
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) May 22, 2021
Played a bit of Dark Mist, a pretty neat #roguelike deck-builder on iOS. If you're into the genre, you might know the devs from Blood Card, which already had the "your cards are your health" trick. This has some unique implications and gives more meaning to the concept of "HP". pic.twitter.com/KcK5vKplt8
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) May 20, 2021
OMG so close… that bat will go down! 🦇
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) May 24, 2021
The last couple of days I've been rediscovering the joy of "Cards with Personalities" by @Elastiskalinjen on the Anbernic RG351P. It's a full-fledged #PICO8 deckbuilder. If you played Ascension or Star Realms, you'll feel right at home. pic.twitter.com/IPJYggCOdk
So not only are folks making #SegaMasterSystem games today, but they also use diegetic timers to prevent board staring in a tile-matching game? "Modern" is not just about technology.
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) May 25, 2021
Kudos @ichigobankai!
And check out @polariapoyon's amazing soundtrack: https://t.co/YfLhH2NlST pic.twitter.com/yk4io2SMfb
Phew! Managed to beat @ichigobankai_'s Heroes Against Demons. It was only the "0 continues left" ending, but oh well. Game's not that easy! 😀
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) May 31, 2021
Check out the free rom here: https://t.co/vS8ZQxbiJq
There's also an actual physical Master System cartridge: https://t.co/jJ9YKCUPBB pic.twitter.com/ABlEJJPPrI
This is a really cool adventure along the lines of classics like Colonel's Bequest or Deadline where you don't just maneuver the game world, but also all the characters' timetables. Just that you're the murderer in this one… https://t.co/WoQxlX9UFI pic.twitter.com/PD0qlygQvc
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 3, 2021
So @evercaderetro is bringing old games back properly licensed and all! Great to see a curated selection of those for once, including many classics, but also more obscure games worth checking out. The handheld just moved in with and we became friends immediately! 😀#RetroGaming pic.twitter.com/tpFREeJ3Iq
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 3, 2021
It's #ThrowbackThursday, so I'm playing some Yars' Revenge on the @evercaderetro handheld. One of those classics that's still interesting to this day.
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 3, 2021
Now I wanna make a game around the idea of generating shots behind yourself and then having to dodge them to kill enemies. 😀 pic.twitter.com/IJ3KShZdSh
Shoutout to Pixel Session Vol.1 by @TRASEVOL_DOG, which is part of the Indie bundle for Palestinian Aid and fits the “games as conceptual art” lens I described in my most recent essay perfectly. Yet more inspiring #PICO8 stuff! 🤩
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 8, 2021
Get the bundle here: https://t.co/x5bOf5eSTf pic.twitter.com/tuK8QAQ6n1
SNKRX by @a327ex is an auto battler designed around a combat variant of Snake. As usual with these games there's quite some depth to the class-based set collection system.
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 10, 2021
Also it gave me strong Nimble Quest (@NimbleBit) vibes. Wish that game was still available! pic.twitter.com/qDZyL4yPVm
Fortune-499 by @bad_tetris is rock, paper, scissors, but with divination and magic. It's quite weird, but that makes it really cool. Also it's genuinely funny!
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 11, 2021
And yes, it's also part of that huge bundle you can get to help Palestinians in need: https://t.co/x5bOf4XhuF pic.twitter.com/1U1ljsqDWR
Geometry Arena is a top-down shooter #roguelike with some clever #GameDesign twists: Difficulty is a constant part of your decision-making, so you actually capitalize on being ahead of the power curve. Also, the arena persists between stages and lets you save power-ups for later. pic.twitter.com/jpezyGc0Vt
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 12, 2021
Timo And Tima is an adorable puzzle game for @theGamebuino where you control two characters. After the first few straight-forward stages, it introduces quite the surprising twist to its mechanics when it puts you into a… completely empty level. 👀

Cool Geometry Arena build:
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 15, 2021
– Tons of knockback
– Reversed recoil which moves myself forward to knock them back even more
– Enemies take damage from being knocked into walls
– Enemies explode on death
Result: 💥🎆🧨⭐🔥
Ah, the joy of drafting your own modifiers in a #roguelike. pic.twitter.com/o64bH4qY5n
Super Crate Box by @Vlambeer is an #IndieDev classic. And sure enough the version for @theGamebuino (Super Crate Buino) by project founder @AurelienRodot has got me addicted again!
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 17, 2021
I'm 100% holding @tha_rami and @jwaaaap responsible for me not having done the housework yet… pic.twitter.com/0w4n1FGnDL
The @EnterFaeria creators just released @PlayRoguebook, likely the best #roguelike deck-builder since @TheMonsterTrain.
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 18, 2021
It adds interesting positional aspects to combat and map exploration.
Also happy to report that two Triton Breeders indeed quadruple all your frog plays. 🐸 pic.twitter.com/go4JzACpUk
That was a short final round… 😀
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 20, 2021
Check out SNKRX if you haven't. It's really fun and @a327ex has relentlessly been updating it with thoughtful changes and new content since its launch. pic.twitter.com/3pB1XEmhz2
Nicely stacked Disintegrate for a (guaranteed) 144 bleed opener and a turn 2 boss kill. 🤜👿
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 22, 2021
Really enjoying exploring the build possibilities in @PlayRoguebook. Throughout a run it throws such a variety of random selections at you, you'll rarely (be able to) do the same things. pic.twitter.com/Zp3PRYjqaL
A @PlayRoguebook card that deals quadratic damage and a gem that makes it cost 0 instead of 4 mana, how interesting… 🤔
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 25, 2021
💣💣💣💣💣 pic.twitter.com/UJl5Cg4VG4
Can confirm that @krystman of @LazyDevsAcademy definitely wasn't kidding when he said the GameForce was great for #PICO8! So crisp!
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) June 28, 2021
The super cool games shown:
– Combo Pool by @NuSan_fx
– Nodes by @exquisite_bytes
– Just One Boss by @bridgs_dev
– Nemonic Crypt by @nemo_dev pic.twitter.com/RN82B1i33Y
