A tweet-based journal of what I’ve been playing…
Turns out doubling a bleed stack in @PlayRoguebook EVERY single turn is quite effective… epilogue 7 done! 🙂
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 2, 2021
I really like these custom card modification systems of recent #roguelike deck-builders (Vault of the Void, Monster Train) a lot more than generic card upgrades! pic.twitter.com/yGIMm5NE4m
Antecrypt by @PUNKCAKE_delice is a wonderfully creative top-down shooter where you have to work around your targeting reticle. It moves on its own and you have to get close to recharge, which makes things very interesting in terms of positioning and movement. Well done! 👏 pic.twitter.com/z8IB2w5YMm
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 2, 2021
Okay, #EscapefromTarkov is definitely going better than last time so far (knowing the maps helps, lol)! 😀
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 4, 2021
First wipe impressions: Flea market is now apparently a mid-game tool. So more RNG in what you get early? Lots of "spontaneous coop" potential in the new scav karma system! pic.twitter.com/9Yi8Sk794D
The Arduboy FX is here and it's a beauty! Congrats @bateskecom! 🙂
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 6, 2021
Game shown is Knight Move by @OBONO, a clever little chess puzzle generator. pic.twitter.com/qIsCDULmmK
New HS-Battlegrounds-like in early access: @StorybookBrawl.
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 6, 2021
It's similar, but iterates on the formula very nicely. There are e.g. one-off spells to buy and your formation has a front and back row (and you know how I keep preaching about the importance of "space" in #GameDesign). pic.twitter.com/3wjhGS6kks
Time lapse of a fearsome "evil monsters" build taking the win in @StorybookBrawl. This is a really good and accessible #CardGame auto-battler! pic.twitter.com/vn1ERIZhwI
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 9, 2021
My bird friend developed the ability to make monster friends and now we're all just hangin' in the dungeon! Thanks @madjackmcmad of @Dungeonmans for the wholesomeness! ❤ pic.twitter.com/R4crNnuJAl
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 15, 2021
Just tried (ha!) @EvertriedGame. It's a really cool #roguelike. Feels like a single-actor Into The Breach. Positioning is very important, cooldowns only tick on movement. I also love that it has a real-time element in the focus meter continuously going down. Demo on Steam now! pic.twitter.com/oc8k6Mi8yb
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 23, 2021
How fitting that this very royal composition of characters took me to royal rank in @StorybookBrawl! 👑👸🤴
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 25, 2021
The more I play this, the more I appreciate the changes it makes compared to previous genre entries and it's becoming one of my favorite games of the year! pic.twitter.com/hp2zLxfcB1
Gotta say, the @Pokittocom is probably the cutest handheld in my collection so far!
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) July 27, 2021
Games shown are:
– Starbase Defender (really clever Breakout / shmup mix)
– Endless Forms Most Pokittoful (fiendish platformer with limited movement options, based on a ZX Spectrum game) pic.twitter.com/24SoNUAehq
There are 14 games on the new @evercaderetro Indie Heroes Collection, but Alien Cat 2 turned out to be one of my favorites. It's a clever puzzler where you control multiple cats at once. pic.twitter.com/FOtQA6dPNW
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 3, 2021
Astronarch is a really cool and unique #roguelike auto battler that focuses on item synergies over the old "re-rolling characters to collect sets of 3" mechanism. pic.twitter.com/g3TfiEPX3i
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 4, 2021
Yes, Worms Armageddon is also on the @evercaderetro now and (to nobody's surprise I guess) it holds up amazingly well. pic.twitter.com/wu3Py1xuaQ
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 5, 2021
Vivid Knight is yet another #roguelike auto battler, but it comes with its own twists on the formula, such as an unusually active spell system (and chibi character art 👀). pic.twitter.com/KZcayFECxX
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 6, 2021
Decided to turn all my treants EVIL while playing Mrs. Claus (who gives a bonus to all GOOD characters). Well, it still turned into one of the craziest @StorybookBrawl builds I ran so far.
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 8, 2021
Witness the "Revenge of the Christmas Trees"! 😈🎄 pic.twitter.com/UpcV8bGbku
Just beat @MatthewLNass with a "disgusting" chain of spawns in @StorybookBrawl… while he was actually live streaming the new patch on Twitch.
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 9, 2021
Clip in full glory: https://t.co/0PTJzzQKen
Sorry Matt, keep it up, amazing game! ❤
Stream is still on btw: https://t.co/si9R4bDLXX pic.twitter.com/kM3QTUpZiK
The Wratch's Den by @PUNKCAKE_delice is a wonderfully distilled #roguelike version of Dungeon Keeper. You know, ~30-minute matches, randomized maps, drafting units / items and all that good stuff. It's also really difficult! 😀
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 12, 2021
But the win screen story is totally worth it. ❤ pic.twitter.com/J4GQ7Q5T9Y
Played a few chapters of this. Surprisingly fresh take on the solitaire genre with cards having special abilities in addition to their numerical values!
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 13, 2021
(Don't worry about the "energy" symbol btw. Game is free with a single one-time purchase to remove ads. No consumable IAPs.) https://t.co/AtBc2JAnHC
First 3 runs went smoothly, but there's a lot more in Slice & Dice by @ColourTann (#pixelart by @a3um_pixels).
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 17, 2021
It's a dice-building #roguelike where turn timing matters a lot. The physics are super fun too (which surprisingly few dice games get right)!https://t.co/OpzJBIspgf pic.twitter.com/mEdrwx9X6j
OMG Slice & Dice has a mode where you skip 40% of a match into a random selection of heroes / items. Take that, pesky reset problem: https://t.co/Ay0ks9O5Cw
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) August 19, 2021
I've been wanting this in many #roguelike games, e.g. Spelunky, for years: https://t.co/SE2QLiLyO2
Thank you @ColourTann! pic.twitter.com/mVn63cYAZ4
I feel like this is the next step in my frog gamer career ever since Metal Gear Solid gave me a 🐸 badge for excessive rolling…
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) September 2, 2021
Thanks @adom_dev! 😀 pic.twitter.com/vDtkSvDjxJ
Terminus is a turn-based zombie survival #roguelike. Feels like a blend of NEO Scavenger and Project Zomboid, but with relatively short runs and the clear goal of, well, getting to Terminus. I like the efficiency. Improvements during early access could turn this into a true gem! pic.twitter.com/MmoehVZVmW
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) September 5, 2021
TV Kid by @aztrosist is a #roguelike "clicker" kind of like Luck Be A Landlord but pure stats drafting. There are synergies to explore, but I do miss the "space" LBAL has in its slot machine board.
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) September 8, 2021
For gameplay check out @TheTimeToGrind (one of the best indie channels lately)! pic.twitter.com/FeVcrV5bdu
A donkey went mad in there, hence the blood. Can't imagine why. Even had potatoes. #RimWorld pic.twitter.com/p13IsXHppx
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) September 9, 2021
The latest version of @oregontrail (on @AppleArcade) is a really well-made resource management game. It also tells its stories across playthroughs kind of like Shiren the Wanderer (or Hades I guess). And again, I have a soft spot for meaningful, gamified inventory management. 😀 pic.twitter.com/Ul84530qb6
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) September 11, 2021
As an idle game skeptic, I was pointed towards Leaf Blower Revolution and was surprised to find a very enjoyable ride through an ever-changing system that forces you to constantly switch your priorities too. The "idle" part quickly ceased to matter. Nice! 🙂 pic.twitter.com/WE1BEkJUZC
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) September 20, 2021
Dungeon Deathball by @crowbarska is basically Into The Breach, but with a ball. Which obviously results in a very fun game. As game designers all around have been theorizing for years, more strategy games should have balls in them! 🏀 pic.twitter.com/Mk7L6igfld
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) September 22, 2021
If you like your #roguelike laser-focused on tactics, you'll love this one! https://t.co/wYwv5c6ejs
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) September 24, 2021
So, Leaf Blower Revolution transformed yet again and is now an arena-based Diablo-like where you collect equipment to defeat bosses. 🤯
— Fabian Fischer (@Ludokultur) September 24, 2021
Also pets. 🦀🐈🧀 pic.twitter.com/EKLANNlm84
